Bhakti Yoga

Bhakti Yoga is known as the Yoga of Devotion — a path where the heart leads the way. It is based on developing a deep, loving relationship with the Divine through faith, surrender, and pure emotion. The word “Bhakti” comes from the Sanskrit root “bhaj,” which means to love, worship, or be devoted. Through Bhakti Yoga, one transforms ordinary emotions into spiritual devotion, directing love not toward worldly desires, but toward the higher Self or God. It teaches that by opening the heart and surrendering the ego, one can experience inner peace, joy, and unity with all beings.

Core Principles

Devotion (Bhakti)

Cultivating deep love and faith in God or the Divine presence.

Surrender (Sharanagati)

Letting go of ego and trusting fully in the Divine will.

Remembrance (Smaranam)

Constantly keeping the Divine in one’s thoughts through prayer, chanting, or meditation.

Service (Seva)

Serving others as an expression of love for God.

A Bhakti Yogi might see every person as a form of the Divine and serve them with love, or chant the name of God with complete surrender and joy.

“Bhakti Yoga transforms emotions into devotion. By offering every feeling—joy, sorrow, fear, or love—to the Divine, the heart becomes pure and peaceful.”
